Lyrics

Telephone Song - c Wayne Gillespie 1984 (Key E)

1) It’s half past one in the morning when the phone starts to go
So I stretch my arm out of bed and deal the alarm clock a death blow
But the room keeps on ringing, it’s no dream it’s bona fide
And as I pick up the receiver I wonder which of my family has died.

2) “Hello” I said “Hello” in a rough kind of tone
And your voice said “Hey I was wondering if I would catch you at home?”
“Jesus” I said “don't you know what time this is?”
You said “It must be about half past one in the morning, hey don’t you miss me?”

3) “No” I said “ not especially, well not at this time of night!”
And you said “Hey I’m sorry if I gave you a fright”
So then we talked for a while even though you were paying for the call
And we both agreed we just didn’t get on…too badly at all

4) And then after an hour we had to say goodbye
You said your weren’t sure how you felt, so of course I said “neither am I”
But you said you’d come to see me, ‘though you wouldn’t name a date
You just said it would be sometime, I said “That’s a long time..Hey don’t you miss me?”

Yes you said you’d come to see me ‘though you wouldn’t name a date
You just said it would be sometime, I said “That’s a long time… that’s a long time to wait”
